Asia Argento is an Italian actress and filmmaker who is a member of the largest family with both. She's pursued the two professions her own. The actress made her debut when she was just nine in the film of Sergio Citti's Sogni e bisogni (1985). The role she played was the main one in the film of Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and also appeared in Michele Soavi's 1989 movie The Church. The actress played Nanni Moretti's daughter later in the season on the film Red Wood Pigeon (also directed Moretti) (1989). It was in Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career really took off and she was able to move on from playing very young girls to more mature, complex role. Cannes International Film Festival was a huge movie's success. In Trauma (1993), she worked for the first time alongside her father, the renowned Italian filmmaker Dario Argento (her mother is one of Argento's favorite actresses, Daria Nicolodi, playing an obese girl on the lookout of her parents' killer. The Phantom of the Opera is the third film she's made together with her father. It was a complex, challenging role that won she an award from David di Donatello for best actress . Patrice Chereau was her director in Queen Margot, where she was the main character. The actress was again a part of Michel Piccoli on Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion in 1995, earning her another David di Donatello, as well as the title Grolla D'oro. Asia began directing in 1994 she produced two short films: Prospettive (1996), a document on her father, and Abel/Asia (1998), a film about the cult filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia produced her first film in Scarlet Diva (2000). The film was made in collaboration between Asia with screenwriter/actor Linda McArtney. The film was released on May 20 the 20th of May, 2000 in Italy and all over the world. The film was awarded an award at the Williamsburg Film Festival in Brooklyn, New York. Anna Lou was born in 2001 after she directed some music videos. She was a part of Jean-Marc Barr's performance in The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she was in Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action thriller. Asia has also written several short stories which were published in a variety of magazines.
