Holly Hunter, an American actor and producer, is known for her acclaimed roles in movies such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The film Piano earned her an Oscar. Actresses have a long career of involvement in Broadway off-Broadway, Broadway and various projects. Since her childhood she's always been enthusiastic about performing. She portrayed Helen Keller as a fifth-grade student in a school play. She was born deaf in the one ear after suffering from mumps but did not permit this to deter her desire to be an actress. While in college, she studied drama, she moved in New York City with her goals with her sights set. Hunter was able to make her Broadway debut due to an accidental conversation with Beth Henley, a playwright. Together, they wrote in Broadway Crimes of the Heart. As she settled in Los Angeles, she began to look for film roles. The role she was offered came as an actress supporting the lead character of Swing Shift. She has since appeared in several movies, television shows and movies over the course of a 30 year career. Holly Hunter won a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in addition to the Women in Film Lucy Award.
